I created Howard's Paris in 1997 and from the beginning, the product control, from A to Z, has been an obviousness for me. Today, my team has grown and we are 3 moving forward in the adventure and sharing the passion.
I not only make collections of shirts and ties in ready-to-wear but also offer a custom-made service. And that's what we're going to focus on in here : the offer is interesting in relation to the quality/price ratio especially the height of the most demanding and passionate of you.
The beginning : start the adventure, by relying on us do the only try of your shirt directly at the shop.
You will have to deal either with me or with Quentin or Clémence, the other two "hands" of the shop. The measurement is taken in about 30 minutes (no appointment needed). Once your measurements have been taken and saved in your personal file, they are sent to the workshop to start the creation of the shirt. This is where the magic of the shirt making starts.
A team of 7 seamstresses is in charge of your custom-made shirt. For 20 years, I have been working in perfect transparence with my seamstresses when sending your measurements to the workshop. The client follow-up is essential and should not be neglected. Everything must be perfectly clear and we must not waste time.
The assembly of your shirt must be delicate and precise, the finishes have to be sharped and perfectly mastered. In fact, I like to define our tailor-made shirts as "beautiful pieces, sewn with fine, delicacy and passion".
There are a number of manual operations involved in the manufacture of your shirt, and for the pleasure of the most demanding, we have a possibility to make some personalizations and adapt the manufacture to any of your request.
I have been working with weavers since the beginning, mostly English and Italians.
Among these 'few' rolls, some fabrics are rarse and exclusive. Some are huge and famous weavers, other are smaller and 'unknown' houses. However, their precious know-how is essential to me and unfortunately very often forgotten.
I really like historical and family houses, especially when they have what I like to call a "soul" and a will to perpetuate the handmade work, share their passion. That's how I always liked (and always will) work.My 20 years of experience at the shop looking for the precision in measurements, have allowed me to make a simple and mastered measurement sheet that I use for my ready-to-wear and bespoke shirts.
You want a tailor-made shirt, which combine comfort and precision ? There is no secret. It is the constant search for comfort and precision that prevails. The measurement at the 8th district shop is done on pattern.
Two adjustments are possible : slim and regular fits. For the sizes, the workshops have pattern ranging from sizes 36 to 46.
From the drawing pattern to the fabrics choice, we start from scratch. And there are nearly 20 steps by which the my seamstress work, one by one.
You have the choice between 3 options : the basic one, machine sewing, the semi-handmade (half of the shirt is handmade) and the full-handmade (all the shirt is handmade). Where to start after the measurement?
You choose your collar among the 80 I hand-drawn. You will find 9 different neck triplings : from the thinnest to the thickest neck. For the choice of your wrist, 40 are available, all related to the triplurality of your collar, because it is the most harmonious thing to do (I believe). But the selection is way to large that your choice can quickly be complicated.
So everything was intelligently thought out.
How our basic tailor-made shirt is ?
The throat is simple, the seams are thin and discreet (1 needle - 9 points to cm) made on a traditional flat machine. The reinforcing swallow is adorn of the blazon of the Howard's house, the buttons are made of Australian mother of pearl. Whalebones are integrated within the thermo-glued collar. This is what I find the more defined and classy.
However, you can change everything ! You have a specific wish ?
Choose a double needle stitch rather than English, an American throat rather than simple, a neutral reinforcing swallow, wooden or colored buttons. Everything is possible and achievable. Because it's your shirt, only you will know what suit you and please you the most.
For the option semi-handmade, idem. You have control over everything. This time, the veil and the collar foot, the swallow and the armshank are entirely handmade by the seamstresses.
For the option full-handmade: the collar, the buttonholes, the swallows, the armshank, the travettos and the throat are entirely made by hand.
Finally a part just for you. The most personal, interesting and exciting of all these explanations (even if it is not mandatory). As long as you have a beautiful tailor-made shirt, you might as well want to focus more in some details (which for me are not actually).
For the purists among you who read me, we are able to make a single needle sewing when making your sleeves, which brings you a small extra ease of movement compared to double needle sewing sleeves shirts.
For the most creative of you, ask me to design your own collar, serigraphy your buttons, sew one or more embroideries, stitch travettos.
It is also possible to decant your fabric in the workshop before sending it. Decantation allows the fabric to be 'prepared' for its future life, but above all to avoid that it moves when washing. A godsend for those of you who travel a lot and switch to the washing machine very often. Test it, you won't be disappointed. If you wish to wear your shirt on the same day of delivery, ask it to be washed, ironed, delivered on a hanger in a cover, and possibly without label.
The price varies according to the fabrics you choose. For a basic fabric made of poplin, twill or oxford, count 220 euros for a shirt without option, 260 euros for a shirt semi-handmade and 290 euros for a full-handmade shirt. For other fabrics, the choice is larger that it depends on the weight, the titling and the origin of the fabrics.
When you start making your tailor-made shirt, measurement at the shop or by distance and the verification of it once received, count 5 weeks. If necessary, readjustments in the Parisian workshop, within 2 hours, can be performed. Mention if you want to receive your custom-made shirt at your home or office, by courier in a bag, washed and ironed.
